Tim McCormack,
Special Adviser on War Crimes to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
To Be Confirmed
Tim McCormack is Professor of International Law at the University of Tasmania and the Special Adviser on War Crimes to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Tim was the Foundation Australian Red Cross Professor of International Humanitarian Law and the Foundation Director of the Asia Pacific Centre for Military Law at the Melbourne Law School and remains grateful for the opportunity to develop his internationally recognised expertise in the Law of Armed Conflict and the prosecution of war crimes over 35 years of his academic career in Melbourne.
Since returning in 2018 to his home State of Tasmania, Tim was appointed by the Premier to support the former Governor, Prof Kate Warner AC, to consult with Tasmania’s Aboriginal People and to map out a pathway to Truth-Telling and Treaty. Tim is conscious that despite the development of the international law of armed conflict in the 2nd half of the 19th Century, that emerging body of law was never applied to the colonial frontier wars with Australia’s indigenous peoples including in then Van Diemen’s Land.
