Guest Speaker & Performer

Henry Olongo

'The Voice' contestant Henry Olonga has rediscovered his passion for live music performance and public speaking.

The former international cricketer who represented Zimbabwe in Test and ODI cricket, has performed with the likes of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the SAPOL band.

It’s a far cry from Mr Olonga’s first taste of the stage when he was selected to play a girl in a play at an all boys school in Zimbabwe.

“I first stepped on stage was when I was 13 as part of the girl’s chorus,” Mr Olonga said.

“It was the springboard and I graduated to become a tenor in many school productions. I never thought I would perform with an orchestra or some the world's most amazing musicians or choirs.”

“After fleeing Zimbabwe in 2003 following my protest against the despotic Mugabe regime I went on to play in a team of retired cricketers in England. The team included Jason Gillespie and Greg Blewett and many other great world class cricketers.

“Olonga has been very forthcoming about his Christian faith throughout his life and the number of instances God intervened to save him from certain death. Converting to Christianity at the age of 16 at a boys camp , Olonga has been steadfast in proclaiming his love for God and how God can similarly intervene in the lives of those bold enough to place their trust in Him. With a dash of humour and also some sobering stories Olonga loves to share his faith and perhaps even sprinkle a song or two into the mix.

This year we are excited to have Henry Olongo speaking at our breakfast. Henry was a Voice contestant in 2019, was an international cricketer from Zimbabwe, and a strong follower of Jesus. Recounting stories from his youth in Zimbabwe and his Christian walk, he will, with a dash of humour and also some sobering stories share his faith and perhaps even sprinkle a song or two into the mix.

2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
