Melbourne Prayer Breakfast

Past Speakers

The Melbourne Prayer Breakfast has featured an impressive array of speakers over the last 25 years.

The first Melbourne Prayer Breakfast was held in 1984 as a result of the Melbourne Committee of the Christian Business Men''s Committees pursuing the idea of a Prayer Breakfast for Melbourne. The then Governor, the late Sir Brian Murray was the Guest of Honour at the first breakfast when the speaker was the late Archbishop David Penman, Anglican Archbishop of Melbourne.

Similar Breakfasts are held around the world with the one in Washington DC (USA) being the best known, with the President of the United States as Guest of Honour. This has helped give Prayer Breakfasts an acceptance with the general community and particularly with politicians and leaders from all walks of life. These have given us an excellent opportunity to present the relevance of Jesus Christ to contemporary society.

Over 16,000 people have attended the Melbourne Prayer Breakfasts since they were initiated and have heard speakers from all corners of the globe including many leaders from Melbourne.

In previous years the Breakfast has been located at the Grand Hyatt, the World Trade Centre, the Southern Cross Hotel, Melbourne Exhibition Centre and Sofitel.
